Should I rent a car in Key West?
My wife and I are visiting Key West for the first time. Do we need a car to get around the island?

Unless you’re planning on “Key hopping” from island to island, you likely won’t need to rent a car when visiting Key West,
Florida
. The island is only four miles long and one-mile-wide, so walking and biking around is very doable. If you arrive via airplane, you’ll likely be landing in one of three airports: Key West, Miami, or Fort Lauderdale. Most hotels offer shuttle services from Key West airport—all you have to do is arrange a pickup time in advance. Taxis and rideshares from Key West airport are also incredibly reasonably priced, as the island is only 7.24 square miles.
There are two paid shuttle services that you can choose to book—Keys Shuttle or Airport Super Express. Hailing a cab might be impossible or brutally expensive, but there are a variety of reasonably priced buses, including Greyhound.
Once you arrive in Key West, you’ll find that everything will be within easy walking distance. You may also choose to rent a bicycle from any of the bike shops on the island—just make sure to bring your provided lock with you!
Unless you or your travel buddies have accessibility issues (or hate walking and bike riding), having a rental car with you could be a nuisance. While hotels may have parking, there is a lack of free and accessible parking around the island.
