My husband and I are spending a week in Hawaii for our honeymoon, and we were wondering if it’s a good idea to rent a car or just take public transportation. Should I rent a car in Hawaii?

is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, and you and your husband are sure to have a wonderful time! Though you can find a number of guided tours, you should rent a car in Hawaii—it’s the best way to explore whichever island you’re on.Here are a few things to keep in mind when renting a car in Hawaii:
- Reserve your car in advance: Peak travel season for Hawaii is December through March, but even in the off-peak months, the islands are packed with tourists, many of whom want a rental car.
- Determine where you’ll pick up your rental: It’s tempting to pick up your rental at the airport, but that can sometimes be more expensive. Do a little research to see if a quick cab ride to a rental agency can save you money in the long run.
- Determine who can drive the car: Be sure to list both you and your husband as drivers, so you’re both allowed to drive the rental.
- Keep your tank topped off: There’s a lot to see no matter which island you’ll be on for your honeymoon, but all that driving can leave you in a precarious position if you run out of gas.
