Should I rent a car in Colombia?
I have a trip booked to Colombia and I can’t wait! What’s the best way to get around Colombia as a tourist? Should I get a rental car?

Whether you’re headed to a single, specific destination or exploring Colombia far and wide, we highly recommend skipping the rental car when visiting. In major cities, public transportation is readily available and taxis are quite cheap. You can also see many major tourist attractions on foot, so a rental car is just an unnecessary expense.
On the other hand, if you hope to visit multiple destinations in Colombia, you’ll have to pick your preferred mode of transportation. Keep in mind that Colombia is a huge country, so traveling by air is a sensible option for getting around. An airline ticket, while sensible, might also be the most expensive option.
Fortunately, buses in Colombia come in a wide variety, with affordable options to choose from. Many inter-city buses offer luxuries like business-class seats, entertainment, snacks, near-flat seats, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi!
If you’re still tempted to drive, know that Colombia is very topographically diverse and the infrastructure isn’t always highly developed. It’s also a normal occurrence to see livestock sharing the road and underage drivers weaving in and out of traffic on motorbikes.
All in all, car accidents are responsible for an alarmingly high amount of deaths in Colombia.
