Atlanta, Georgia is well-served by MARTA, a public transportation system with trains and buses, so renting a car isn’t necessary.
All of the major tourist attractions in Atlanta—such as the Georgia Aquarium, High Museum of Art, and Zoo Atlanta—are conveniently located near public transportation. MARTA, or the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, offers both metro and bus services at cheap rates.
It’s also important to note that driving in Atlanta is quite the headache. The city’s automobile infrastructure regularly leaves cars at a standstill. When you finally get where you’re going, you’ll likely be forced to pay high parking rates. Some hotels charge as much as $45 per day for parking!
Of course, if you’re hoping to reach the suburbs of Atlanta, you may find a car ride is necessary. You can skip the stress of driving yourself by using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. If having access to your own set of wheels feels necessary, you may be able to save some money by only booking a rental car for the day(s) you’ll need it.
