What a great, tropical vacation for the whole family to enjoy! You should rent a car in Antigua if you want to explore the island. Though Antigua has public bus services, they can often be unreliable.
Antigua has many of the same major car rental companies that you’d find in the United States, but you’ll need to meet the following requirements:
- You are at least 25 years or older
- You have a valid driver’s license
- You’ve acquired an Antigua driving permit through the rental car company
- You’ve payed a $20.00 fee
Here are some tips for renting a car in Antigua:
- Make rental arrangements at the airport in advance. The peak tourism season in Antigua is from mid-December to mid-April, so make your rental plans beforehand. Renting a car at the airport ahead of time will be cheaper than renting one from your hotel once you arrive.
- Make sure your policy covers additional drivers if you’re splitting driving duties.
- Drive on the left side. On the island of Antigua, drivers must stick to driving on the left side of the road.
