Should I charge my electric car every night?

I’ve just bought a new EV that I love, and it’s got pretty good range, too! But I’m not sure how often I should be charging it. Is it a waste of electricity to charge it every night, or can it be constantly juiced up?

Sounds like you’ve just made a great purchase! EVs are the future, and they’re also a really good buy for now. They’re getting more efficient and even cooler with every model, and range is higher than it’s ever been!
It’s reasonable to wonder if you need to charge your new car overnight — range anxiety is very real. The thing is, charging your car at night isn’t always the best option. In fact, you really shouldn’t be doing it every single evening. Want to know why? Well, there are a few reasons why it might be detrimental to your new vehicle:
  • A constant stream of charging can hurt your battery in the long run
  • You probably don’t drive too far
  • Charging stations are widely available these days
Home charging stations tend to be pretty fast — with up to 30 miles of range per hour typically coming out of the plug. That means you can rack enough miles up for the next day, and then some, without too long of a charge. And when your car is unplugged you’re not losing battery, either.
So, don’t overdo it! Make sure that you have enough battery for your day, but keep in mind that you won’t have to max it out every night.
It’s also important to note that accidents happen, and if something goes awry you might run out of charge on the road. That can be all sorts of uncomfortable and lead to some serious issues. So, it’s important to make sure you’re covered with the right
