Should I buy the Volvo extended warranty?
I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to car maintenance, but I’ve never really dealt much with car warranties. Is it worth it to buy Volvo’s extended warranty?

Volvo
comes with a 4 year / 50,000 mile, factory warranty. That’s not a very impressive length, and given that Volvo ranks quite low on the JD Power’s Dependability Study
, we’d be a bit concerned when that four years runs out.For that reason, it might be a good idea to purchase Volvo’s extended warranty.
Volvo offers three levels of extended warranty: VIP Platinum, VIP Gold, and VIP Powertrain. Each lasts for 6 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first. Here’s a look at what each of these extended warranties covers:
- Platinum—covers almost all mechanical vehicle parts, excluding brake drums and rotors, brake linings, airbags, glass, safety restraints, and more.
- VIP Gold—covers important vehicle parts, like engine, transmission, brakes, steering, suspension, and more.
- VIP Powertrain—basic coverage for the engine and transmission.
