Should I buy a Genesis extended warranty?

I’m looking to buy a new Genesis and I just know the dealer is going to try to sell me on an extended warranty. Is it really worth buying?

Genesis
vehicles are backed by an impressively long factory warranty, but investing in the extended warranty still might be a wise choice.
With the extended warranty, you’ll get increased coverage for up to 10 years or 120,000 miles from your car’s in-service date. The plan will pay to repair or replace the majority of Genesis parts, like the shocks, fuel system, brake system, electrical systems, front and rear suspension, powertrain, and more.
In addition to covering your vehicle’s major parts and system, all Genesis extended warranties include the following perks:
  • Towing
  • 24/7 roadside assistance
  • Rental car reimbursement up to $35 per day for 10 days
  • Trip interruption coverage up to $200 per day for 5 days
Plus, if you purchase the plan and end up selling your vehicle to an individual buyer before the 10-year period is up, the remainder of the warranty can be transferred to the new owner.
However, there are some negatives (besides the extra cost). Certain parts are excluded from the warranty, including appearance items like trim and upholstery, as well as wear-and-tear items like brake pads, fuses, and bulbs. Any damage caused by lack of maintenance, pre-existing conditions, collisions, accidents, theft, weather, animals, or vandalism won’t be covered, either.
Finally, in order to keep your coverage valid, you’ll need to maintain your vehicle according to the factory-recommended service schedule at your own expense.
Ultimately, whether or not you should purchase a Genesis extended warranty depends on two major factors: the reliability ratings of your specific vehicle, and how long you plan to keep it. If your vehicle is especially reliable, or if you plan to sell it before your factory warranty expires, then an extended warranty may not be worth it. Otherwise, it’s likely a great investment.
Fortunately, you don’t need to decide right away! You can purchase the Genesis extended warranty any time before your factory warranty expires.
