Losing a car key can be one of the most frustrating things! Depending on what type of car key was lost and what kind of coverage you have on your
car insurance
, there may be some assistance for you. What type of car key was lost? Was it the factory-issued keyfob or an aftermarket remote start keyfob?
Unfortunately, your car insurance will not provide coverage if it is the separate remote start keyfob since it isn’t considered an emergency. So instead, check the manufacture’s warranty; they may have a discount on a key replacement.
The key fob that starts your car is a different story! Check your insurance policy for
towing and/or roadside assistance coverage
. If you see it listed, you are in luck! Some insurance providers like
Progressive
cover the service you may need from an auto locksmith but you will be responsible for the cost of the replacement key.Other insurance companies like
