Is there any difference between filing a renters insurance claim for lost property vs. stolen property?

"I previously filed a claim with my renters insurance company over a stolen laptop. Now I want to file a claim for a diamond earring that I lost. Does filing a claim work differently for lost property vs. stolen property?

"

Answer
“Technically speaking, there is no claim process for lost items because they are typically not covered under a renters policy. A lost-item claim would be denied coverage. Renters insurance covers specific perils or incidents, and unfortunately, a general loss of an item is not a covered peril. “
