The Volvo P1800 model was originally released in 1961 and remained in production for over a decade until its discontinuation in the early ‘70s. During that time, nearly 47,500 units were made. That number includes all four iterations of the P1800, including the 1800S, 1800E, and 1800ES models.
The original P1800 was equipped with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder B18 engine capable of up to one hundred horsepower. But two years later, horsepower increased to 108 as the original engine improved for the 1800S. By 1966, the engine had been further improved to add seven horses, bringing its horsepower to 115.
In 1970, the second-to-last P1800 variant—the 1800E—was introduced, along with an all-new fuel-injected engine. Speed and acceleration trumped ride quality in the 1800E, which had a top speed of nearly 200 miles per hour—but in its final iteration, the 1800ES received a lowkey makeover that reduced its peak performance in favor of ride quality and comfort.
The 1800ES swapped its two-door sports car body style for station wagon status. Just 8,000 units were produced before the 1800ES (along with its former variants) were discontinued by the Swedish automaker.
