Is the Honda powertrain warranty transferable?
We’re getting a new car and I plan to sell my 2020 CR-V to my son and daughter-in-law. But is our Honda powertrain warranty transferable? Or will they have to buy their own warranty?

Honda
powertrain warranty is transferable as long as the vehicle is still under its factory warranty. The factory warranty is valid for three years and 36,000 miles, and the powertrain warranty is valid for five years and 60,000 miles. In your case, it’s been less than three years since you purchased your car. So, if it has fewer than 36,000 miles, all the warranty coverage should transfer with the sale of the car.
Car warranties are usually associated with the vehicle’s VIN rather than an owner’s name, but it still may be a good idea to speak with a Honda representative to ensure the warranty is transferred to the new owners.
Honda’s powertrain warranty generally covers:
- The vehicle’s engine and engine components
- The transmission and transaxle
- The front-wheel drive system
- The rear-wheel drive system
