Is the Audi A4 a good first car?

I’m looking to buy a car instead of continually leasing one, and I’m considering the Audi A4. Is it a good option for a first car?

 is an average first car for teenagers but a compelling choice for those looking for a premium compact car. While
Audis
 are solid and reliable, whether or not an A4 is a good first car depends on your budget.
Here are some things to consider.
Expensive upkeep: Audi is a luxury car brand, which means maintenance and repairs are pricier than a non-luxury car. According to RepairPal, the average annual cost to maintain an Audi A4 is around $739 per year. While it may not seem like a lot, a
Honda Civic
 is about half that.
One of the least expensive Audis to maintain: If you’re keen on an Audi, apart from the
A3
, the A4 has the lowest maintenance costs.
Cheapest German brand to insure: Car insurance is non-negotiable, and you likely don’t want to pay a fortune. Although it’s still going to be higher than non-luxury brands, an Audi is cheaper than a
BMW
 or
Mercedes-Benz
 to insure.
Good reliability: It might not beat
Lexus
, but Audi was ranked 15th out of 28 automakers on Consumer Reports’ 2021 reliability survey. RepairPal also gave the A4 a good ranking, coming in 14th out of 31 luxury midsize cars for reliability.
