Is the $15,000 Nissan electric car a hoax?

I’ve heard rumors that Nissan is coming out with a new electric car that will cost less than $15,000, but haven’t seen any listings near me. Is the Nissan electric car a hoax?

It’s not a hoax, but you’re right that it’s not yet available in the U.S.
The Nissan Sakura is a mini electric vehicle that will go on sale this summer in Japan, and it has a starting price equivalent to about $14,000 USD.
The current cheapest new electric car in the U.S. is the
2022 Nissan Leaf
at $28,495, but that is soon to be eclipsed by the
2023 Chevy Bolt EV
, which slashed its 2022 starting price by $5,900 for a new MSRP from $25,600.
It should be noted that the Chevy Bolt EV no longer qualifies for the $7,500 tax credit, so with that factored in, the Nissan Leaf would be more affordable.
Even the cheapest electric car can still be pricey to insure due to their higher sticker price and specialty parts. Never overpay for
