Is texting and driving illegal in Ohio?
I was checking a text while sitting at a red light and my friend told me I could get a ticket for that. If I’m not moving, I don’t see what the problem is. Is it illegal to text and drive in Ohio?

Texting and driving is illegal in Ohio. It may seem rude to ignore a text message, but it’s dangerous to do anything that takes your eyes away from the road while you’re driving.

by replying to a message. And doing so puts you at risk of more than a ticket—other penalties include:- A 60-day driver’s license suspension and $150 fine for a first offense.
- A one-year license suspension and $300 fine for a second offense.

If you really have to read your message or respond, pull over and put your vehicle in park before doing so. No message is worth risking your life, and it will still be there when you can safely read it.
