Is texting and driving illegal in Georgia?
I’m going to be driving through Georgia for a work trip soon and I’ve heard they’re pretty strict about their traffic laws. What happens if you get caught texting and driving in Georgia?

In fact, according to Georgia’s Hands-free Law, it’s illegal to have a phone or device touching any part of your body while it’s in use if you’re behind the wheel. If you do get caught texting and driving, you’ll face the following penalties:
- $50 fine and 1 point on your license for a first offense
- $100 fine and 2 points on your license for a second offense
Be sure to set up voice recognition or wireless speakerphone before your trip if you anticipate an urgent need to communicate while you’re behind the wheel. Otherwise, tell your co-workers the calls and texts will have to wait until you reach your destination.
