Is owning an electric car inconvenient?
I’m interested in switching over to an electric car to save money on gas, but I’m worried that it could be too much of a hassle for my lifestyle, especially when it comes to finding charging stations. Is having an electric car inconvenient?

There are tons of reasons to drive an eco-friendly electric car, including a smaller carbon footprint, savings on gas, and lower maintenance needs and costs. That being said, they’re not for everyone.
It’s still a great time to go green and invest in an electric car, but there are a few disadvantages to owning one. Some examples include:
- Depending on the EV infrastructure in your area, charging stations may still be few and far between. Of course, you can always charge at home, but access to charging stations gives many drivers peace of mind.
- Charging takes longer than filling up at the gas station. While you might spend no more than five minutes stopping at your local gas station, even charging at a DC fast station can take 30 to 45 minutes for most cars.
- Range anxiety. While some EVs boast a driving range of over 300 miles, gas-powered cars typically can drive about 400 miles on one tank of gas. Driving an EV on the highway can also significantly cut into that range.
- Higher upfront purchase cost. Even with a$7,500 tax credit, EVs are still typically more expensive than a comparable gas-powered car, but the savings come later in saved money on fuel and maintenance.
