Is Oregon an at-fault state?

I’m moving to Oregon from California so I’m researching what my car insurance minimums will be. I noticed the personal injury protection (PIP) insurance requirements are pretty high, though. Is Oregon an at-fault state?

Oregon car insurance
can be a little confusing! Technically, Oregon IS an at-fault state. However, you have the option of buying no-fault coverage.
If you’re involved in an accident and you opted for no-fault coverage, you will be responsible for covering your own medical bills, regardless of who is at fault. If you stick to at-fault coverage, the other driver is responsible for your medical expenses as long as their insurer deems them at-fault and confirms they have enough coverage.
Whether you choose no-fault or at-fault coverage,
Oregon car insurance laws
mandate that you must have $15,000 of
personal injury protection (PIP)
insurance either way.
Oregon actually has some relatively high minimums for their
state insurance requirements
, which can make finding
affordable car insurance
in the Beaver State tricky.
