Is lane splitting legal in South Carolina?

I just bought a motorcycle after moving to South Carolina because the traffic is a lot worse than where I previously lived. I hate traffic, but I just learned that lane splitting might be illegal in South Carolina. This would be terrible news. In South Carolina, is it legal to lane split?

Unfortunately, lane splitting is not legal in South Carolina. Some states leave it in a murky area where it’s neither explicitly legal nor illegal, but South Carolina is not one of those states.
And don’t forget about these motorcycle laws in South Carolina:
  • South Carolina does not have a universal helmet law
  • Motorcyclists must obtain a Class M license. A standard license is not adequate.
  • Motorcyclists can ride side by side in the same lane.
  • Anyone older than 15 years old is eligible to get a permit to operate a motorcycle. You will have to take a specific knowledge test and a vision test.
What’s important to note is that motorcycle laws vary per state. If you drive through or move to a new state, you need to learn the specific laws that regulate motorcycle operations. Not following the state driving laws could endanger other drivers and result in harsh legal ramifications.
Moving, especially to a new state, is the perfect time to review your car insurance. You’ll need to make sure your

coverage meets the state’s minimum requirements and reflects your new driving environment. Don’t sweat it if this sounds like too much work because you can team up with
