Is it difficult to become a driving instructor?

Would it be difficult for me to become a driving instructor? It seems like it could be kind of a fun job and I’ve always considered myself to be a good driver, but I’m not sure if you have to get special training or take a class first.

It’s usually not too difficult to become a driving instructor, but there are some qualifications that you’ll need to meet first in most states:
  1. You’ll need a high school diploma or GED.
  2. You have to be 19 or older to teach in the classroom, and 21 or older to teach behind the wheel.
  3. You’ll need a
    valid driver’s license
(of course) and a certain number of years of experience. The required experience varies by state, so check your state requirements to learn more.
  4. Driving instructor training is a requirement, but you can often take the classes online.
  5. Apply for an instructor’s license. There will be some small corresponding fees, so be prepared for those.
  6. In order to get hired, you may need work experience as an independent contractor.
