Is it bad to get a car wash everyday?
Can you help settle this debate I’ve been having with my husband? He got me a subscription to a local car wash, but I only go three or four times a month—I don’t want to damage my car’s paint job. He thinks I should go more often, even daily, to get the most out of the membership. Is it bad to get a car wash everyday?

Wanting to know whether it’s bad to get a car wash everyday is logical—as much as you may care about having a clean car, will your car’s paint job (and other elements) hold up to a daily cleaning? As it turns out, the answer is: daily car washes are probably not a great idea, but they’re unlikely to do much harm if the car wash is run professionally.

Water inside doors and other compartments | By washing your car daily, there’s a risk of getting water inside unsealed areas, causing rust. |
Damage from dirty brushes | Unless you’re going to a brushless car wash, you risk—albeit a slight one if the car wash is professional—of damaging your paint. Brushes can pick up debris over time (unless they are maintained). A daily wash increases this risk. |
While wanting to get the most out of a car wash membership is admirable, you may not want to spend the time getting your car washed every day. The one exception would be in the winter if you live in an area where salt is used. Road salt is very destructive, so taking your car to the car wash after every snowstorm is a great idea.
