Is hitting a deer covered under my collision or comprehensive insurance?

"Will comprehensive or collision insurance cover hitting a deer? I hit a deer with my truck and it caused some damage."

Answer
“Since you collided with something, you might think that hitting a deer would fall under your collision car insurance policy.
However, contact with animals is an exception to this rule and falls under the umbrella of comprehensive car insurance.
On the other hand, if you swerved to miss the deer and hit a tree instead, that would fall under collision.”
