Is hitting a deer covered by insurance?

I’m going on a road trip through some of the country’s national parks. Many of these are heavily inhabited by deer, so I want to make sure I’m protected. If I hit a deer, is it covered by insurance?

Deer are certainly something to watch out for when you’re driving through various national parks. However, hitting a deer is covered by insurance only if you have comprehensive coverage. Collision coverage and liability coverage will not cover the damage to your car.
If your car is damaged by a collision with a deer, take your car to a body shop to assess the damage and get multiple quotes. With these bids, you can decide whether to file a claim and pay the deductible or just pay for the damage out of pocket.
If you don’t have
comprehensive coverage
, now is the perfect time to add it to your policy.
