Is Highway 36 in Colorado a toll road?

I’m moving to Colorado in a couple of weeks and will need to take Highway 36 to get from my house to my job. But I’ve heard talk about it being a toll road—and I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg just to commute. Will I need to pay a toll to drive Highway 36?

Congratulations on the move! Highway 36 in
Colorado
isn’t properly a toll road. Sections of the highway do have tolls, but you only pay a toll if you are driving in an Express Lane.
The Express Lanes in Colorado’s highway system help you avoid traffic and get from point A to B faster. They are also intended to incentivize drivers to carpool—you only pay a toll for driving in the Express Lanes if you are a single driver or a driver with just one passenger.
The cost of the toll for Express Lanes varies depending on the time of day, type of vehicle you drive, and number of passengers you are driving. If you want to avoid the tolls, simply drive in the general use lanes—but know that you might be looking at a longer commute time.
