Is driving with astigmatism at night safe?

I have astigmatism in one of my eyes and I think it’s been getting worse. It’s getting harder to see when I’m driving at night. Is it still safe to drive with astigmatism at night?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re dealing with this! Unfortunately, driving with astigmatism at night can be dangerous, depending on the severity of your condition. It’s often best to consult your eye doctor about your options for managing the condition.
In the meantime, here are some tips to make driving with astigmatism at night a little easier:
  • If you wear glasses, add an anti-glare coating to the lenses
  • Give yourself extra time to get to wherever you’re going so that you can drive slowly
  • Try to avoid looking directly at oncoming
    headlights
, street lamps, or other sources of light in your path
It’s possible that worsening astigmatism will increase your insurance rates, too. Check out the
