Is defective equipment a moving violation?

If I get a ticket for having defective equipment, will that count as a moving violation? I’m worried about my insurance rates going up since my bills are already pretty high.

Defective equipment is not a moving violation. This means that this charge won’t add
driver’s license points
to your record or your insurance.
However, this doesn’t mean that a defective equipment charge won’t affect your insurance rates! Insurance providers consider a variety of factors when determining how much your policy will cost, including things like the safety of your vehicle. If you’re driving a defective car, you might see higher insurance rates as a result.
