Dawn dish soap—or any dish soap, for that matter—is not safe for use on cars, as it is not formulated nor intended for use on a car’s paint.
Even though Dawn is generally considered to be a gentler cleaning solution than many dish soaps, it is still considered abrasive and can potentially strip your car’s clear coat.
If you need to wash your car at home, it is always best to buy a cleaning solution designed specifically for washing cars—something like Meguiar’s or Chemical Guys would be a good choice.
Using any other cleaning solution is not recommended, as they are not designed with your car’s clear coat or paint in mind. If you can’t get a hold of any car wash soap and don’t want to go through a car wash, try to find a self-service car wash, as they’ll have everything you need to wash your car safely.
