“Not all states require
car insurance
, but each state does require financial responsibility.
Each state requires drivers to have a minimum form of financial responsibility, whether through car insurance or another state-mandated means. This ensures that you will be able to cover any physical or property damages you cause during an accident.
Depending on where you live, your state will have specific
minimum insurance requirements
that you must meet. This means that your state will require drivers to have a certain amount of coverage.
Most states require
bodily injury liability
insurance to cover bodily damages to anyone you hit. If you live in a no-fault state, you are required to have
personal injury protection
for your injuries.
State insurance laws are renewed annually, so make sure you remain in compliance with any new minimum requirements enacted.
