Is Austin ready for an electric car?

My fiance and I are moving from Orange County to Austin, and we’re thinking about buying an electric vehicle once we’re there. I don’t know much about the EV scene over in Texas. Do they even _have_ an EV scene over there? Do you think Austin is ready for electric cars?

Congrats on the exciting move! I hear Austin has awesome live music and even better BBQ! That’s a great question. There _are _electric vehicles roaming around Texas, but less than 1% of registered cars are electric.
However, the state of Texas wants to change that. Not only does the state offer
excellent electric vehicle incentives
, but it also has big plans that EV owners will be excited about.
Here’s what we know about Austin’s preparation for electric car infrastructure:
  • Texas plans to install public charging points every 50 miles along the majority of interstates.
  • The state plans to support 1 million EVs with $408 million in federal funds. The five-year plan will make long-distance travel more convenient as well.
  • The Texas Department of Transportation will first **create **charge points along main corridors and highways, before focusing on more rural areas.
  • Drivers can expect high-powered chargers at 150kW, which should charge most EVs to 80% in 30 minutes.
  • By 2030, the U.S. hopes to create a network of 500,000 dependable and convenient charge points for electric cars.
Now that you know more about the EV scene in Texas and the city of Austin, you can look forward to life continuing to improve for eco-friendly drivers. Another way to up your game during this transition is to make sure you’re not overpaying for your car insurance every month.
