Is a Toyota 86 a good first car?

I’m finally ready to buy my first car after borrowing my parents’ cars for a few months. I’ve always loved the sporty look of the Toyota 86, but my folks think that it’s a poor choice for a young driver. I’m trying to convince them otherwise—is the Toyota 86 a good choice for a first car?

When you
buy your first car
, you’ll obviously be drawn to style, power, and features, but these aren’t necessarily a good foundation for a solid first car. Fortunately, the Toyota 86 is a good first car that combines style, features, practicality, affordability, and safety into one complete package.
Some of the reasons that you use to convince your parents that the Toyota 86 is a good first car include:
  • Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
  • Up to 31 mpg
  • 205 horsepower, which provides a bit of pep for you, but isn’t insanely fast for a sports car
  • Reliable and dependable, even as a daily driver
The only downside is that its classification as a sports car can drive up the price of car insurance. So if you’re dead set on buying a Toyota 86, learn how to find cheap car insurance as a young driver, and you should be satisfied with your choice.
