Is a Tesla Model 3 a good first car?
I’m picking out my first car and my grandparents are paying for it! They want me to pick an electric car—they’re really into environmental stuff. I thought I’d go for a Tesla—is this a good choice?

That’s generous of your grandparents! The Tesla Model 3 can be a good first car, but there are some drawbacks to it, as well. Here’s a quick pros and cons list to go over with your grandparents:
Pros
The Model 3 is undoubtedly fun to drive and comfortable. You’ll save a ton on gas, of course, and will benefit from Tesla’s high safety ratings. With a Tesla, you’ll also get access to the nationwide Supercharger network.
Cons
The biggest drawback to buying a Model 3 is the high price tag—even if cost is not an issue, a more expensive vehicle will also be more expensive to insure. This is especially true for younger drivers. Because the Model 3 is a powerful vehicle, it may be tempting for drivers to push the speed limits, leading to more accidents. And if you live in an area that doesn’t have a lot of charging stations, running out of power on the road is a risk.
