Is a speeding ticket considered a misdemeanor?

I just got a speeding ticket for going a little bit over the speeding limit. I know I should’ve paid better attention to the posted signs, but now I’m worried. Are speeding tickets considered misdemeanors?

We’re sorry to hear about your speeding ticket! Usually, in most cases and in most states, speeding is considered more of an infraction rather than a crime.
What this means is although it may or may not be considered a crime in the eyes of the law, you’ll still be penalized in the sense that it will end up on your driving record if ticketed.
Speeding tickets could turn into a misdemeanor, however, if you have either outstanding speeding tickets or you get charged with reckless driving. So while a first-time or an occasional speeding ticket may not cause you to have any blemishes on your criminal record, it may cause a little blip on your driving record, which can impact things such as your car insurance rates.
While speeding tickets can wreak havoc in your life, making sure you have the right car insurance to back you up in case of anything can help make your life just a tad bit easier.
