Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in Indiana?
I got a seatbelt ticket the other day, and I’m a little worried it could hurt my driving record. I know moving violations are a little more serious and can add points to your driving record. Is a seatbelt ticket considered a moving violation in Indiana?

Although it’s super important to wear your seatbelt, your failure to use one isn’t a moving violation in Indiana. That means the penalties aren’t as severe as other types of infractions, and it won’t incur any
driver’s license points
.Unless you stack up a whole lot of non-moving violations on your record, your seatbelt ticket is unlikely to cause an increase in your insurance premiums. But that doesn’t mean we’re giving you our blessing to go around without your seatbelt. Here’s why:
- Driving without a seatbelt puts you at a much higher risk for injury or death in an accident.
- It’s a primary offense in Indiana. That means you can be pulled over solely for not wearing a seatbelt.
