Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation?

My friends and I were driving around on back roads the other day, and one of them was giving me a hard time for not wearing my seatbelt. Even if we did get pulled over, a seatbelt ticket isn’t a moving violation, is it?

I’m going to bet your friend was more interested in your safety than your driving record, but, no, a seatbelt ticket is not a moving violation in most states. Keep in mind, though, that requirements vary by state, and they do change, so it’s best just to keep that safety belt on.
Also, while you may not be in danger of getting points added to your record, if any of your friends are under 16, you could be cited with a moving violation for breaking child safety restraint laws.
Before you head out on the backroads unbuckled again, take a minute to check your state’s seat belt laws.
While you’re at it, why not take a minute to head over to
