Is a modified Mazda CX-9 expensive to insure?
I recently installed some performance mods in my Mazda CX-9 and, as a result, I’m looking to update my car’s insurance policy. So far, all of the quotes I’ve got back are a lot higher than what I expected—is a modified Mazda CX-9 expensive to insure?

Generally speaking, a modified Mazda CX-9 is going to be much more expensive to insure than its non-modded counterparts, as performance parts (such as those that increase horsepower or improve the suspension) typically cost more to maintain, repair, or replace.
There’s also the fact that modifying your Mazda CX-9 increases the car’s value, which in turn makes your vehicle more susceptible to carjacking and theft—to mitigate this increased risk and protect their investment, your insurance company will likely up your rates.
That being said, there are some Mazda CX-9 mods that can actually lower your insurance rates, namely those parts that improve upon your Mazda’s safety features or *anti-theft devices**.
