Is a Mitsubishi i an electric car?
I really like the look of the Mitsubishi i, and I want to buy one for my next car. My husband says we should switch to electric, and that the Mitsubishi i isn’t electric, but I think it is. Is a Mitsubishi i an electric car?

Great question! Yes and no, depending on the country you’re in. The Mitsubishi i is not electric, but the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is the electric version of the Mitsubishi i. However, the MiEV has been rebranded as the i in the U.S.
The Mitsubishi i first released in January 2006. It’s a kei car, also known as a micro-car, and its compact size and innovative layout made it an instant success. However, as a gas-powered vehicle, it was quickly revamped into an electric car, since they were seen to be the
future of the car industry
.This made the news of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV unsurprising. Mitsubishi used the i as the basis for their new electric vehicle concept. It was released in July of 2009, although it has new model years every year. The MiEV is completely electric. The five-door hatchback has a range of 160 kilometres on the 16kWh battery.
Although several years of the MiEV have received recognition, some model years are
better than others
.The Mitsubishi i was never released in the U.S., however the MiEV is available. Because of this, for simplicities’ sake Mitsubishi chose to market the MiEV as simply the i in the U.S..
