A family tradition—we love it! The Ford Focus ST is a pretty good first car. It is inexpensive, fuel efficient, and compact. That said, there are better compact car options out there.

- The Ford Focus ST is a performance-oriented compact hatchback that was produced from 2005 to 2018. It has a turbocharged engine, which isn’t ideal for the first-time driver who doesn’t yet know how to handle the extra power. The ST cranks out 252 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque.
- The Ford Focus ST gets an EPA-estimated 22 city/30 highway mpg.
- The 2018 Ford Focus ST retails for approximately $14,000 to $24,000, depending on its condition and mileage.
