Is a Ford F-150 a good first car?

Would it be a good idea to buy a 2014 Ford F-150 for my daughter’s first car? I want to make sure she’s safe, and I’m hoping to find a reliable vehicle that will last for a while.

Unfortunately, a Ford F-150 is not a good choice for a first car.
While F-150 trucks are dependable, they’re also more difficult to drive than your standard car due to their size. If your daughter isn’t used to driving a pickup, giving her this kind of vehicle could increase her risk of a car accident.
Additionally, you’ll be paying more for your daughter to own this type of vehicle.
Ford F-150 insurance costs
are more expensive than a standard sedan and, since insurance providers already consider teenage drivers high-risk, you’ll be paying quite a lot to keep your daughter safe behind the wheel.
Finally, the F-150 requires a lot more gas than a smaller vehicle does—which isn’t ideal with already-soaring gas prices. Combine your monthly insurance costs, maintenance, and fuel costs and the cost of ownership will be sky-high.
Our recommendation? It’s better to start your teen with a sedan or an SUV and work their way up as they gain driving experience. Good luck!
