Is a Cadillac a good first car?

My family has always been partial to Cadillac cars. I’m not sure about the origin of our fancy tastes, but it’s definitely got me excited to buy my first car. However, I’m looking at some Cadillac models, and they don’t exactly seem like great cars for first-time buyers. Should I get a Cadillac?

Although pulling an
Escalade
or a
CT5
into the driveway may look cool and feel great, a Cadillac is not a good first car for 99% of drivers.
While
Cadillac
certainly gives you prestige, has excellent features, superior power, and unmatched comfort, it also has issues that
first-time car buyers
may find problematic:
  • Sky-high
    car insurance
    costs
  • Low reliability scores—as little as 1 out of 5 stars from Consumer Reports for certain models
  • High repair costs
  • Below-average fuel economy
If you want reliability, low repair costs, and an American-made car, aim for a certified pre-owned
Chevrolet
or
Ford
. Both have dependable track records, modern features, and higher trims even offer sumptuous, Cadillac-esque features like leather, upgraded sound systems, and connectivity features.
