In which situations should you use high beam headlights?

I hate driving at night, but I have to do it a lot since I work in a restaurant and get off super late. I want to use my high beams to feel more comfortable, but I don’t know if I’m allowed. When can I use my high beam headlights?

Those late-night shifts can be tough! The situation in which to use your high beam headlights is at night when you cannot properly see the road in order to drive safely.
Be courteous of other drivers and do not use your high beams when there is another car in front of you or approaching you.
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts of using your high beam headlights:
  • Do use them when there’s no one on the road in front of you.
  • Don’t use them in rain, fog, or snow—low beams actually provide more visibility in these situations.
  • Do use them for high speeds and on highways.
  • Don’t use them for low speeds and in suburban areas.
Keep in mind that those late-night shifts can be particularly dangerous when you’re tired—so make sure to prioritize
sufficient sleep
