In a Ford Explorer, how many cylinders are there?
I’m looking for a family car that’s safe but also fun to drive. I don’t want a luxury brand but a V6 engine. In a Ford Explorer, how many cylinders are there?

A Ford Explorer may have four or six cylinders.
The base engine on a Ford Explorer is a turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder engine. This gives you 300 horsepower. To get the twin-turbo V6 which produces 400 horsepower, you’ll have to upgrade to the ST, Platinum, or King Ranch trim levels.
If you’re wondering, the base Explorer starts at $37,005. To get the cheapest Ford Escape with a V6, the price skyrockets to $50,755. Though Ford is not considered a luxury brand, that price tag is entering luxury territory! Note that Ford insurance costs may increase with a V6 engine as well.
Regardless, the Ford Explorer is a great family car. It has three rows of seats and a ton of cargo space. Fuel economy is respectable and the standard infotainment features are excellent. Every model includes at least:
- An 8-inch screen
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- Voice-activated navigation,
- WiFi hotspot
- Rear-seat entertainment system.
It also gets solid safety ratings. If that’s not a recipe for a kid-friendly car, we don’t know what is!
