I've been wanting to adopt a pit bull for years, despite their bad reputation. Now that I'm working from home full-time, I want some animal companionship. How will getting a pit bull affect my insurance?

“Many insurance companies have lists of dog breeds that are considered dangerous/vicious and are not allowed to be owned if you are insured with them due to the liability risk.
Before adopting a pit bull, it’s a good idea to call your insurance company to ask if they allow this breed. Even if they don’t, they may be able to exclude the dog from your liability coverage so you can still own the animal, but it would not be covered if it bit someone.
If this is not an option with your current carrier, then you would need to shop around for an insurance company that does allow pit bulls.
