If another car hits my car from the side, are they at fault for the accident?

Why does the insurance company have to investigate if someone ran a red light and hit me? I was driving through an intersection with a green light and the other car ran the red light and hit my car from the side.

“This can be a very frustrating situation to find yourself in.
Your
car insurance
company is investigating to rule out any liability you may have for the other party’s damages.
They will want to take statements from you and the other driver, as well as any witnesses, especially if the other driver claims they did not
run a red light
.
They will review the police report to see if either driver was given any contributing factors in the accident and make sure that the statements given to the police match the information provided to the insurance company.
They will look at the points of impact on both cars to see if one or the other was clearly established in the intersection or if either driver had a chance to avoid the other. They may even review scene photos to help determine the liability.
Your insurance company will let you know when their liability investigation is complete and let you know the outcome.”
