I was just in a car crash because the other driver had no lights on. What should I do?

The roads around my house are pitch black at night, and I just hit another car because they were driving around with no lights on. What should I do now?

If you were involved in a car crash with a vehicle with no lights on, your first concern should be for everyone’s safety.
Here’s what to do:
  • Check yourself and your passengers for injuries. If you or anyone else is injured, call 911 immediately.
  • Call law enforcement to report the accident. It’s illegal in many states not to report even minor accidents.
  • Move to a safe location out of the path of traffic, if possible.
  • Document the crash. If you’ve got a phone with a camera, take lots of pictures.
  • Exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver. However, don’t discuss fault.
Once it’s safe to head home, it’s time to review your
car insurance
coverage and determine how to file your claim for damages. Contact your agent to discuss your options as soon as possible, and if you’re not fully satisfied with how they handle your situation, head over to
