I just saw a bike rider get hit by a car. What should I do?

A lot must be going through your head after witnessing a bike rider hit by a car! First, you need to ensure everyone’s safety:
- If you’re driving, pull over and turn on your hazards. If you’re walking or riding a bicycle of your own, be sure to stay clear of oncoming traffic.
- Call 911. Even if you think other people have already made the call, it’s better to be safe.
- Check on the victim. Unless you’re a trained medical professional, don’t attempt to provide medical assistance. Instead, focus on keeping the victim calm and reassuring them that help is on the way.
- Give your statement. Once medical professionals and law enforcement arrive, you should be prepared to give your statement regarding what you saw. Stick to the facts, and try to provide as much detail as possible. Consider using your phone’s camera to document evidence or take down notes to remember relevant details.
