I just got a new car battery but my car won’t start—why? I replaced my car’s battery but I’m still experiencing trouble starting and I don’t know what’s going on.

Sorry to hear about your car trouble! If you have a new car battery but your car won’t start, one of the most common reasons is that the battery was simply installed incorrectly—in which case you may want to have a mechanic take a look to make sure everything is connected properly.
But if it isn’t the battery that’s at fault, you may be dealing with either a faulty starter, ignition switch, or alternator.
If the issue is with the alternator, you should have also noticed issues with your electronic systems and/or power windows, a burning smell, or an odd whining sound when the engine is running.
All in all, your best bet is to bring your car to an automotive repair shop and have a mechanic diagnose the problem for you—you’ll get an expert opinion and can avoid making an uninformed or unnecessary repair.
