I got hit by a car while walking—what should I do now?

I got hit by a car while I was walking to class last week, and it was really scary. I’m a little scraped and bruised and unsure of what I need to do next to handle things correctly. What steps should I take after getting hit by a car as a pedestrian?

That sounds incredibly frightening—we’re so sorry it happened and so glad the outcome wasn’t too serious.
When someone is hit by a car while walking, the driver’s
bodily injury liability
will cover damages if the driver was found to be at fault. If either the pedestrian or the driver has personal injury protection, that may help to cover some of the damages as well, but it varies according to state and circumstance.
Make sure you contact the insurance company, and if you haven’t already, it’s always a good idea to get checked out by a doctor after an accident. Whether or not you seek legal advice is really up to you, but it may help to answer some of your questions. Good luck!
