How will electric cars hurt mechanics?
My family owns a mechanic business and after my dad retires I’m hoping to takeover. Electric cars don’t have as many parts so they won’t need as many mechanic visits for tune-ups as a traditional car would need. How will electric cars hurt mechanics?

Family businesses are great, and we understand your concern.** Mechanics won’t go out of business as EVs still need attention**, however not as often as their gas-powered counterparts. Mechanics may also need to get special training to work on EVs since they are completely different ball games.
The reason for fewer visits is because EVs have about 1,980 fewer parts and therefore they don’t wear out as quickly. One of the ways mechanics and auto shops can make sure they stay in business is to remain ahead of the update.
Many auto shops are frequently turning away EV drivers with the common line “we don’t work on those”. While come EV fixes are as simple as a software update, mechanic shops could still learn how and charge people to do it for them.
Fearing technology only pushes us away from the chance to learn and grow. We’ve seen this in the early 2000s and 2010s when many older employees were afraid of the switch from paper to digital. It’s a learning curve, but it can be done.
