In the early days of electric cars, many of them didn’t use rechargeable batteries at all. Exhausted batteries were simply swapped out for new, fully-charged battery packs in lieu of recharging them.
When rechargeable batteries became available, they actually worked a lot like modern-day EVs. When your car ran out of charge, you’d simply plug it into a wall-mounted charging station and unplug it when you were done.
Thankfully, today’s batteries can hold a charge for much longer and charge much faster than those early models. If you’re thinking about buying an electric car, sign up with Jerry to get the best car insurance plan that delivers great coverage at a great price for your new car.
