How to transfer insurance from one car to another?

The family van finally gave out after 10 years, and we’re thinking about buying a sedan now that the kids are gone. How would we go about transferring our insurance from our old car to a new one?

Getting a new car is exciting! Luckily, it’s fairly easy to transfer your
car insurance
policy to another car with the same provider.
Before you purchase your new car, call your current provider and give them the following information:
  • Vehicle’s year, make, and model
  • VIN
  • Effective date of purchase
  • Expected mileage per year
  • Required
    coverages
  • Lienholder name and address if applicable
Once you purchase your new vehicle, you often can leave your old vehicle with the dealership, and you can take that car off of your policy.
Keep in mind, however, a new car—especially if it’s a brand new vehicle or you plan to drive it more—may require more coverage, which will make your premiums rise.
If you’re not happy with the new rates from your current provider, you can shop around for a different carrier to save money. The experts at

After providing you with a comprehensive cross-analysis of the best policies across providers, Jerry will handle the phone calls, paperwork, and renewals for your top pick so that you don’t have to. It’s that easy!
